M a g n e t i c	The energy stored when like poles are pushed closer together or when unlike poles are pulled further apart.	Fridge magnets, compasses and maglev* trains which use magnetic levitation.

The two most important parts of the train's motion are, of course, the wheels and the track.  Let's imagine the wheels are magnetic positive and track magnetic negative.

If the strengths are correct the train might lose some actual contact with the rails and produce levitation.  Maglev.

Maglev trains

Could .. magnetic levitation technology hold the answer to cutting journey times between nearby crowded UK cities?

The main asset of a maglev – named after the technology that keeps it hovering – is its ability to accelerate and decelerate quickly. This means it is ideally suited to shorter intra-city trips. Maglev trains also have fewer carriages, so it’s better suited for passengers travelling on trains every few minutes.

The Maglev technology is currently used in Japan where passengers travel at 268mph – 18mph faster than what High Speed 2 will achieve. In 2007, the UK Government rejected proposals for a Maglev train line between London and Glasgow, in favour of high-speed rail.
